NICEIC chooses Clik to develop Certification Software

NICEIC Group has appointed specialist software developer Clik Ltd to create a software tool to enable electricians to complete BS7671 electrical installation certificates and periodic inspection reports on their computers, rather than by hand.

Currently electricians purchase packs of certificates from NICEIC which are then completed by hand and given to their customer as a declaration on the compliance or condition of the electrical installation or periodic inspection work which has been carried out.

The new software tool aims to make the process of completing the certificates quicker, simpler and more efficient. It will modernise the long-standing method of the certificates being hand-written.

The software will allow electrical contractors to purchase blocks of certificate numbers which can then be used on the certificate templates which are stored in the software.

Other features planned for the software include drop down boxes which will allow for speedier completion of the certificates, as well as a customer database which will let contractors store site and equipment information relating to their customers. The certificates can be stored and re-printed at anytime, as well as having an option to save the certificates as a PDF and for them to be emailed to the customer.

Alan Wells, Head of Electrotechnical at NICEIC Group said: “Completing electrical installation certificates can be a time consuming process. This software will enable contractors to switch from manual to electronic completion easily, reduce the amount of time spent doing the paper work and modernise the process completely. The cost of the software will be kept to a minimum”.

Geoff Adams, Managing Director of Clik Ltd said: “The software will revolutionise the process of completing electrical installation certificates and reports. We are very excited to have won the contract and to be working with such a prestigious company as the NICEIC.”

Alan Wells added: “We were impressed with Clik’s ideas for the certification software and they were therefore a natural choice when we were looking for a partner to work with us.”

The first phase of the project will be released May 2008 and will be based on the new 17th Edition electrical certificates.
